Thelma M. Tignor

Thelma M. Tignor, 78, of Nelsonville, passed away Thursday, August 7th, 2003 at the Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, after a brave 52 day battle with stomach cancer. She was born May 11th, 1925 in Nelsonville, the daughter of the late John and Mary Gilbert Parry. She was the widow of the late Donald G. Tignor, who passed away July 8th, 2000.

As a lifelong Christian, she was a former member of the First Christian Church in Nelsonville, and a current member of Carbon Hill Christian Church, where she enjoyed numerous activities with the churches woman?s group. Thelma was always active in the planning of her class reunions. She and her class had just celebrated 60 years. As one of the few active alumni of East School, she participated in all of the annual reunions. She was retired from the William Brooks Shoe Company.

Survivors include sons Steven of Georgia, David of Florida, daughter Beverly Steven Lynn of Lancaster, five grandchildren, Michelle Chad Nungester, Bryon Thomas, Erin and Ben Tignor, and Mike Lynn. Great-Grandchildren Joshua, Stephany, and Tyler Hollingshead. Very special sister, Betty Bash, of Lancaster, sisters-in-law Wilma Tolliver and Margaret Howe of Nelsonville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband Donald, she is preceded in death by her sisters Helen Bailey, Bessie Covert, and four infant sisters.

The family offers sincere gratitude for the many cards, calls, and prayers received, and would like to especially acknowledge the support of hospital chaplain Pastor Lowell, and Pastor Mel Truex of Faith Memorial Church.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday August 11th, 2003 at Souers-Cardaras funeral home, Nelsonville. Officiating will be dear friend, Pastor Kerry Huffman, former children?s pastor at Faith Memorial Church in Lancaster, and currently a pastor with Community Church of Greenwood, Indiana. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call Sunday, August 10th, 2003 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Carbon Hill Christian Church.
