James Russell Thomas

James Russell ?Jim? Thomas, 61, of Buchtel, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2003 at his residence. He was born December 20, 1941 in Athens County, the son of the late Cecil and Phyllis Clark Thomas. He was the husband of Janie Stump Thomas of Buchtel.

He was a 1960 graduate of Chauncey-Dover High School and retired from Yorde Machine Products after 30 years. He was a member of the Nelsonville Elks Lodge #543 and a member of the American Bowling Congress. He was the first person to ever bowl a perfect 300 game in Athens County. Jim enjoyed his family, card games, and Nascar. He had a great zest for life and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.

In addition to his wife, Janie, he is survived by two daughters, Tina Ben Roth of Pleasantville and Teresa Wallace Kevin Kelly of Pickerington, six grandchildren, Haylie, Colton and Katie Roth and Brittany, Alison and Ty Wallace, two brothers, Gary Janice Thomas of Athens and Larry Maggie Thomas of Albany, a sister, Sherry Dana Chapman of Athens, a sister-in-law, Maxine Thomas of Chauncey and many nieces, nephews and close friends

In addition to his parents, a brother, Cecil ?Gene? Thomas and many loving in-laws, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 28, 2003 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville. Burial will be at Asbury Cemetery, Hocking County. Friends may call Monday, October 27, 2003 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home where an Elks service will be held at 7:30 PM.
