Dr. Robert E. Butts

Dr. Robert E. Butts, 86, of Nelsonville, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2003 at Doctors Hospital West, Columbus. He was born January 26, 1917 in Chauncey the son of the late Clarence I. and Mariam Bridgewater Butts. He was married to Betty Henderson Butts who survives.

Dr. Butts was a retired Osteopath and retired Athens County Coroner. He was a World War II Army veteran. He attended the Nelsonville United Methodist Church, was a member of the Nelsonville Masonic Lodge, the Aladdin Temple Shrine and the Athens County Shrine Club. He was a former member of the Athens Country Club and the former Hocking Hills Golf Course where he was club champion in 1959 and 1961. He was also a lifetime member of the Ohio Osteopathic Association.

In performing his duty as Athens County Coroner for 32 years, he was very dedicated considerate and kind. In his duty as Coroner he believed in death with dignity and according to law. He will be missed by many friends and many who helped him in his work, and he thanks you all.

In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by a nephew, James L. Butts of Titusville, Florida.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Lorenzo Butts and a sister, Margaret Ong.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 18, 2003 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville with Rev. Stacy Evans officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery New Addition, Nelsonville. Friends may call Monday, November 17, 2003 from 2-4 and 6:30-8 P.M. the funeral home where Masonic services will be held at 7:00 P.M.
