Elsie M. Staley, 88, of Chauncey, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at Russell Nursing Home, Albany. She was born November 19, 1915 in Chauncey the daughter of the late William Thomas and Rhonda Jane Carter Oliver. She was the widow of the late Clarence ?Mose? Staley.
She was retired from Ohio University where she was a cook. She was a member of the Chauncey First Church of God where she was a Sunday School teacher for 50 years and she played the piano for more than 50 years by ear. She was in the Secret Sisters of Chauncey,
Mrs. Staley is survived by a granddaughter, Kristina Staley Dean of Albany, two great grandchildren, Michael Dean and Morgan Dean and one brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Betty Oliver of Nelsonville.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Perry Michael Staley, four sisters, Evelyn Burt, Edna Branham, Emma Elizabeth Oliver and Ethel Scott and four brothers, Clarence, Harry, James and Raymond Oliver.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 17, 2004 at the Chauncey First Church of God with Rev. Gary Alton officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call Friday, January 16, 2004 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Souers-Cardaras funeral home, Nelsonville.
