Wenonah Masterson Heyl
Wenonah Masterson ?Nonie? Heyl, 82, of The Lindley Inn, The Plains, passed away Wednesday, January 21st, 2004 at O?Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens. She was born March 24th, 1921 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of the late James and Maude Stimson Masterson. She was the widow of the late Arnold Heyl, Sr.
Nonie was a homemaker all her life, and was a member of the Episcopal Church. She was a talented soprano, and studied voice with private tutors at the University of Houston. She was an accomplished artist and decorated her home with original oil paintings. During World War II, Nonie?s church provided entertainment to soldiers at a nearby Army camp. She headed a committee that wrote invitations to the soldiers. One of these soldiers was Arnold Heyl, of Cincinnati, Ohio. Nonie married Lt. Heyl on her 22nd birthday. Their marriage lasted for 60 years, until his death last year.
She is survived by two sons, Arnold Alvin Barbara Heyl, Jr., of Chantilly, Virginia, and James Frederick Masterson Heyl, of Rochester, New York, three daughters Wenonah Celeste James Parsons of Nelsonville, Suzanne Elizabeth Heyl of Rochester, New York, and Linda Terese Creegan of Corte Madiera, Virginia, Seven grandchildren, Robin Gwynn Parsons of Chandler, Arizona, Kelly Mike Schmall of Gainesville, Virginia, Christopher Heyl of Chantilly, Virginia, Carlos Heyl of Rochester, Virginia, Colleen Creegan, Sophia Zaklikowski, and Leonardo Zaklikowski, of Corte Madiera, California, three Great Grandchildren, Gideon Hartman of Cincinnati, Tallisen Goeson of Chandler, Arizona, and Emily Schmall of Gainesville, Virginia, one brother, Arthur Masterson of Rover, Arkansas, one sister, Virginia Ritchie of Rover, Arkansas.
In addition to her parents and husband Arnold, Nonie was preceded in death by a brother, James Masterson, who died during World War II.
The family requests contributions in memory of Nonie?s life be made to St. Patrick?s Episcopal Church, 3241 Brush Drive, Falls Church, Virginia 22042.
A memorial service honoring Wenonah?s life will be held during the spring, 2004, at St. Patrick?s Episcopal Church, 3241 Brush Drive, Falls Church, Virginia, with the Reverend Tinh H. Huynh officiating. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements are being handled by Souers-Cardaras funeral home, Nelsonville.
