John William Anderson, 66, of The Plains, passed away Sunday, January 25, 2004 at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, West Virginia. He was born June 6, 1937 in Beardstown, Illinois, the son of the late C.I. and Margaret Shay Anderson. He was married to Dana Lee Mourne Anderson of The Plains for more than 45 years.
John was a member and an Elder at the Community of Christ Church, formerly known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a graduate of the Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa and Northwest Missouri State Teachers College. He received his Masters degree from Ohio University. His first teaching job was at Shade local schools where he taught Social Studies and coached basketball. He then taught at the Buchtel-York High school where he taught Social Studies and Drivers Education and coached Varsity basketball and baseball. In 2000 John retired from Nelsonville York City Schools after 37 years in education. While at Nelsonville-York he served as Elementary Principal, Middle School Principal and as a High School Football and Basketball coach. He was also a member of The Plains Crime Watch.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Dana, a son, Patrick William and Dava Anderson of New Palestine, Indiana; two grandchildren, Briar and Sydney Anderson; two brothers, Cleo and Sybil Anderson of Sherman, Illinois and his fraternal twin Bob and Ruth Anderson of Sun City West, Arizona; two sisters, Bernice and Fred Clark of Independence, Missouri and Clarice and J.D. Young of LaMoure, North Dakota; a sister-in-law, Barbara Shay of Havana, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Christopher John Anderson, a brother, Ivan Shay and a sister and brother-in-law, Jim and Ann Rawlings.
A celebration of John?s life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, January 29, 2004 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Evangelist Bill Brown and Evangelist Alan Stretch officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call Wednesday, January 28, 2004 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
