Richard A. Brown, 78, of Columbus, OH and formerly Glouster, OH, died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family, Wednesday, March 24, 2004, Kobacker House, Columbus. Retired plant foreman for Clark Grave Vault Company after 35 years and a former police officer for Glouster Police Dept. WWII Marine Corps. Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient, after being wounded in Okinawa, May 1945. Inducted into the Veterans Hall of Fame, November 9, 2000. Member of the Linden Community United Methodist Church and former member of Village Park United Methodist Church and East Linden United Methodist Church, Past Commander of the American Legion Post 82, Past Commander of Purple Heart Chapter 1984, Past Department Commander of Ohio Commander Military Order of the Purple Heart, VFW Post 9857, Amvets Post 89, American Legion Post 182, Belleau Wood Marine Corps League, Armed Forces Community Relations Council, Central Ohio USO, where he worked the lounge at the airport and M.E.P.S. Center. Very active in Boy Scouting in the Arrowhead District Life Board Member of Simon Kenton B.S.A. Council. Director of Boy Scout Football Ushering at OSU, for 25 years. Preceded in death by parents: Gertrude Hipscher and Pearl E. Brown; infant brother: Jack, and brother: William E. Brown. Survived by loving wife of 57 years: Wilda Smith Brown; daughter: Becky Rodney Humphrey, of Glouster, OH; sons: Gregory Vicki Brown, of Westerville and Ronald Dorothy Brown, of Frazeysburg, OH; granddaughters: Alicia and Kristen Humphrey; grandsons: Mark Amy, Jason, Douglass, and Scott Brown; one great-grandson: Zachary Brown; sisters: Eileen Harold Hillyer and Norma Pallo; very special aunt: Bernice Hipscher. Several nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Friends may call 6-9 PM Sunday and 9-11 AM Monday, in the Long Funeral Home, 5528 Cleveland Avenue one block south of SR161, where Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM March 29, 2004.
