Ellen Kathryn Shafer, 85, of Glouster, died June 7, 2004 in Doctor?s Hospital in Nelsonville. She was born April 28, 1919 in Buchtel, daughter of the late John and Catherine Ebbrecht King. She was the widow of the late Henry Wesley Shafer who died April 2, 2000.
Ellen was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, The Scripture Group, The Catholic Women?s Club, the Three Star Senior Citizens Center, the Glouster Project, and the Shalom Youth Center.
She is survived by sons, Charles Linda Shafer of Pataskala, James Kathy Shafer of Trimble, Eugene Judy Shafer of Pataskala, Richard Susan Shafer of Glouster, and Donald Shafer of Glouster. Daughters Kathryn Jarrel Haynes of Newark, Evelyn Robert Perkins of Hebron, Bonnie Don Thompson of Nelsonville, and Mary Ben Fisher of Ft. Myers, Florida. She had 22 Grandchildren and 34 Great Grandchildren.
Ellen had 2 brothers, Walter King of Addison, Michigan and Francis King of Nelsonville, 1 daughter-in-law, Jeri Shafer, of Pickerington, 1 sister-in-law, Helen King, of Glouster, several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Richard Burdette.
She was preceded in death by 2 sons, William David Shafer and John Francis Shafer, 3 brothers, Leo, John, and Joseph King, 2 sisters, Mary Smith and Bernadine Demp, and
One Great-Granddaughter, Elena Renee Pichardo.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday in the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Glouster, with Father John Mucha officiating. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Trimble. Friends may call at the Cardaras Funeral Home, 30 Main St., Glouster, on Wednesday from 2-4 PM and at the Holy Cross Catholic Church from 6-8 PM where a Christian wake Service will be held at 7:30 PM.
The family suggests contributions be made to the Glouster Project, 53 High St., Glouster, Ohio 45732.
