JAMES SHAFER
James L.?Jimmy? Shafer, 82, of Nelsonville, passed away Monday, June 14, 2004 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, The Plains. He was born July 27, 1921 in Nelsonville, Ohio, the son of the late James W. and Mattie Blosser Shafer. He was married to Eileen Dewhurst Shafer, who survives, for 60 years.
Jimmy was a partner, with his brother Bob, in the Shafer Sohio Station and he was the owner of Shafer?s Restaurant and Lounge, Highlander Laundry and the Town and Country Carryout. He was a longtime Mason, a member of the Aladdin Temple, Scottish Rite and the Athens County Shrine Club. He was a member of the Nelsonville First Christian Church and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran.
In addition to his wife, Eileen, he was survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Susan Shafer of Nelsonville, a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Chuck Robinette of Nelsonville, five grandchildren, Tina, Chris, Jill, Stephanie and Ali, three great grandchildren, Nathan, Alysha and Logan, a brother, Bob Shafer of Athens and five sisters, June and Neil Hoce, Ruth Brooker, and Vera Newman all of Nelsonville, Birchie Colbert of Parma and Margaret Campbell of Ruskin, Florida and many nieces and nephews,
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Bessie Shafer, Alberta Collins and Amelia Evans.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M, Saturday, June 19, 2004 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street, Nelsonville, with Pastor Paul H. Taylor officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call Friday, June 18, 2004 from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 PM.
