Gary Eugene Oakes

Gary Eugene Oakes, 57, of Nelsonville, passed away Friday, July 30, 2004 at James Cancer Hospital, Columbus. He was born February 19, 1947 in Massena, New York the son of the late John and Issabel Oakes.

Gary had a successful transplant a year and a half ago. He beat non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, however, due to other complications he could fight no longer.

He is survived by four children, a daughter, Tammy Scott Berry Oakes; three sons, Jamie Oakes of McArthur, Jack Angie Oakes of Jacksonville, Florida and Gary Meredith Oakes of Glen St. Mary?s, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Linda Oakes of Buchtel; two step daughters, Jennifer John Davidson of Athens and Shelly Tim Powell of Albany; ten grandchildren, Jamie Jr., Mandy, Elizabeth, Mikala, Jack ?L.J.?, Ryan and Alexandra Oakes, Taylor, Deven and Allison Berry; three brothers, Robert, Jimmy and Richard and two sisters, Shirley and Elaine and a special friend who has helped our Dad through the past couple of years through the good as well as the bad times, his former wife, Donna Cozort.

Friends may call Tuesday from 5-7 P.M. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street, Nelsonville. There will be no other funeral services observed.
