William Merritt Merrill

William ?Billy? Merritt Merrill, 76, of Glouster, formerly of Columbus, passed away Sunday, April 3rd, 2005 at O?Bleness Memorial Hospital in Athens surrounded by the 5 women who loved him most. He was born March 2nd, 1929 in Columbus, the son of the late Fred and Lucy Ellis Merrill. He was married to Gay Buchman Merrill for 31 years. She survives.

Bill was a United States Marine Corp Veteran of WWII, a graduate of North High School Columbus, Class of 1947, where he was a cheerleader for the Polar Bears. He attended Ohio State University, where he was a cheerleader during the snow blizzard of 1950, Michigan-OSU football game, and was later the head cheerleader, and he was a salesman for various firms throughout his life.

He is survived by four daughters, Susan Kevin Jones of Centerville, Judith Harris of Columbus, Jann Steve Hanners of Gahanna, Melissa Michel Puente of Danville IN, a step-daughter Kimberly Fouty and husband Clarence Dale of Columbus, grandchildren Amy Brandon Forrester, Matt Jones, Elizabeth James Myers, Andy Jones, Emily and Stephanie Harris, Christopher, Michael, and Brad Hanners, Michel and Matthew Puente, a great grandchild Hannah Jones, one sister, Betty Lou Cobb of Beavercreek, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Thomas Annabell Buchman of Marietta, Ralph Clara Buchman of Glouster, and Ruth Ralph Lockwood of Tucson, AZ.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Natalie Marie Harris, and a Son-in-Law, Michael Harris.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, April 8th at 11 A.M. at the Glouster United Methodist Church, 17 Cherry Street, with Reverend Hal Keeton officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Cardaras Funeral Home, 30 Main Street, Glouster.
