Marjorie Faye Devol

Marjorie Faye Clark Devol, 97, of Carbon Hill, passed away at her home on Friday morning, July 8, 2005. Members of her loving family surrounded her. She died of natural causes and complications of pneumonia. Marjorie was born the ninth child, in the ninth month on the ninth day of 1907 in Floodwood, Ohio. She attended Rio Grande College and graduated from Ohio University. She was a member of the Carbon Hill Christian Church, and was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Carbon Hill, Gore, and Green Elementary Schools. She was a member of the American Legion Post 11 in Lancaster. She was a homemaker, loved flowers, and had a ?green thumb? when it came to gardening. She canned many of the vegetables grown in her garden. She enjoyed feeding and watching birds, and was an excellent seamstress who made many lovely quilts. After she retired, she made quilts for each of her great granddaughters, which they will receive on their wedding days. She always said she grew up in the woods, and really knew and loved her trees. She greatly enjoyed her CINCINNATI REDS baseball team.

She is survived by her daughter Ruth Ann Bob Mayer of Athens, and a son, Calvin ?Gene? Betty Devol of Buchtel, grandsons William ?Bill? Currens Devol of Chardon, and two great granddaughters, Jessie and Amanda; Gerald ?Gary? Barton Kelly Devol of Holland and four great grandchildren, Abigail, Nicholas, Taylor and Nate. Her grand-daughter, Dr. Marjorie Daisy Devol, an M.D. who is her namesake, is completing her last year of residency at a Washington, PA hospital. Grand-daughter Elizabeth ?Beth? Bob Mikusa of North Carolina and two great grand children, Marty and Lauren. Daughter-In-Law Dixie Devol of Lancaster. Two Grandsons, Ross Clark Melissa Devol of Woodland Hills, CA and two great grandchildren, Clark and Claire. Rob Lisa Devol of Lancaster and two great grandsons, Nicholas and Shawn, and two step grandchildren, Nicholas and Catie. Grandson John ?Chris? Mary Maisch of Fairbanks, Alaska and two great grandchildren, Klara and Jordan. Grand-daughter Lisa Jerry Briles of Ruther Glenn, VA. A sister-in-law Fern Neal Dillon of Lancaster. A special cousin Marie ?Dawley? Art Kepler of Logan, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents William Flavius and Effie Dawley Clark, Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Otto Devol in 1976, a daughter Carolyn Marie Devol Maisch in 1993, and a son, twin brother to Gene Clark Devol in 2002, brothers Lee, Earl, Paul, Ed and Ira, sisters Mildred Clark, Ethel Abram, Madge Clark, Florence Wheeler and Evelyn Allison.

Memorial contributions can be made in Marjorie?s name to the Gerald Otto Devol Memorial Scholarship Fund, in care of Gene Devol, Box 29, Buchtel Ohio 45716.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11:00 A.M. at the Carbon Hill Christian Church, Carbon Hill, with Reverend Nancy Giese, a friend of the family, officiating. Friends may call Monday from 5-8 P.M. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street, Nelsonville, and one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be at Carbon Hill Cemetery, next to her husband Gerald, daughter Carolyn, and brother-in-law Russell ?Peck? Devol and sister-in-law Opal Reider Devol.
