Tommy Joe Bruce

Tommy ?Joe? Bruce, 62, of Nelsonville, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2005 at his residence. He was born September 18, 1942 in Athens County, the son of the late Arthur and Rose Ramsey Bruce. He was married to Rita Hook Bruce for 39 years. She survives.

He was retired from G.T.E., Logan and was owner and operator of Tom?s Toy Trucking Excavation. Graduated from Chauncey-Dover high school and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Athens Elks Lodge #973.

In addition to his wife, Rita, he is survived by two sons, Tommy Sharon Bruce of St. Clairsville and Brian Glenda Bruce stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas in the U.S. Army; two grandsons, Logan and Bryant; a sister, Joyce James of Athens; special sister-in-law, Dorothy Bruce of Athens and several cousins, nieces, nephews, stepbrothers and stepsisters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepmother, Ora Barnhart Bruce; two brothers Jim and Jack Bruce; a sister, Jean Dodd and mother and father-in-law Floyd and Mary Hook.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at 1:00 P.M. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street, Nelsonville with Rev. Lewis Dunnells officiating. Intombment will be in Athens Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Athens. Military rites will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home where an Elks service will be held at 7:00 PM.
