John David Mingus

September 29, 1934 — December 28, 2005

John David Mingus, 71, of Rockbridge, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan. He was born September 29, 1934, in Hollister, Ohio, son of the late John Delbert and Nancy Jane Sweeney Mingus. David is survived by his wife, Virginia Gail Norris Mingus.

He was a 50 year member and minister of Community of Christ Church, a 25 year volunteer for the American Lung Cancer Association of Ohio, and a hospital Chaplain in Logan. David was a member and past district president of the Logan Lions Club, Sanitarian for the Hocking County Department of Health, a teacher and veterans coordinator for Hocking College, member of the Hocking County ministerial association, he volunteered for MRDD, worked for Outreach International as a volunteer, and was a member of the Hocking County retired teacher association. For 23 years he was in the Army Reserve and retired in September 1994 as a Lieutenant Colonel and he received the Meritorious Service medal. He also served in Headquarters 83rd ARCOM, the 333rd Supply and Service Battalion, Battery A. 7th Howitzer Battalion 28th Arty, and the 83rd Infantry Division, Logan, Ohio.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by two sons, Mark David Rita Mingus of New Lexington, and Michael John Mingus of Rockbridge, two daughters Vicki Lynn Edward Harden of Lancaster, and Virginia Marie Don Sigler of Logan, seven grandchildren, Matthew, Katherine, Michelle, Erin, and Ryan Sigler, Heather Mingus, and Robert Valerie Harden, two brothers Robert Barbara Mingus of Jacksonville, and James Judy Mingus of Glouster, and three sisters, Mina Vore, Susan Mingus, and Nancy Poches all of Glouster.
David is preceded in death by a son Aaron Matthew Mingus, a sister, Edith Mae Tufts, and brothers-in-law Ronald Vore and Charles Poches.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, with Rev. Ralph Brown officiating. Internment will be in New Fairview Memorial Gardens, Rockbridge. Friends may call from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the funeral home on Monday, January 2, 2006.

Graveside military services will be conducted by the Combined Veterans Burial Detail of Hocking County.
