Dennis H. Childress, 87, of Chauncey, passed away Friday, March 10, 2006 at O?Bleness Memorial Hospital, Athens. He was born October 5, 1918, in Circle Hill, Ohio, son of the late Russell and Faye Robinson Childress. Dennis was married to Doris V. Beveridge Childress for 61 years, who survives.
He is a WWII Army Veteran, a member of the First Armored Divison Association, the VFW and DAV, and attended the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church. Dennis was also a retired senior pipe fitter for Columbia Gas.
In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by one son James ?Lou? Bonnie Childress of Millfield, two daughters Jody Childress of McArthur and Debra Barry West of Albany, three grandchildren TravisCarma West of Albany, Kelly West of Albany, and Heather Jeff Warmke of Athens, one great grandchild Madison Warmke, three brothers Gilbert Irene Childress of Maryville, TN, Harold Gladys Childress of Northwood, OH, and James Betty Childress of Garden City, MI, one sister Hazel Post of Nelsonville, a brother-in-law Carl Howard, and seventeen loving nieces and nephews.
Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, as well as a sister Mary Howard, a brother Harry Childress, and two infant sisters Mary Alice and Shirley Faye Childress.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 11:00 AM at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street, Nelsonville with Rev. Mike Thomas officiating. Burial will be in the New Marshfield Cemetery, New Marshfield where military graveside services will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 13, 2006 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
