George William Young

George William Young, 83, of Athens, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2006 at Hickory Creek Nursing Center, The Plains. He was born February 17, 1923 in Athens, Ohio, son of the late George Grover and Edith Dowler Young. George was married to Dorothy Sullivan Young for 56 years who survives.

He was an Army WWII Veteran with the Fourth Armored Division, a member of the Church of Christ in New Marshfield, and he worked for Karr Construction for many years.

In addition to his wife, George is survived by one son, George Larry Young of Athens, four daughters, Sheila James Kline of Nelsonville, Mary Kay Randy Rose of Columbus, Jane Dennis Cuckler of RockPort, Indiana, and Cathy Charlie Paugh Linscott of Marietta, one brother, Paul Young of Athens, one sister Garnett Smith of Nelsonville, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

George is preceded in death by his parents, as well as a brother, Francis Young, and two sisters, Isabelle and Alice Young.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 10, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street, Nelsonville, with Buford Brown and Pastor Dave Cogar officiating. Interment will be in New Marshfield Cemetery, New Marshfield. Military graveside services are will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, April 9, 2006 from 6-9 PM and on Monday one hour prior to the services.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to Hickory Creek Nursing Center, 51 East 4th Street, The Plains, Ohio 45780.
