John Richard ?Big John? Thompson, 74, of Logan, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster. He was born December 6, 1931, in Laurelville, son of the late Guy Richard and Freeda Haynes Thompson. John was married to the late Ruth Blake Thompson.
He was a Korean Conflict Army Veteran, and retired from Columbia Gas as a truck driver. John was also a life member of the Laurelville VFW and a member of Post 78 American Legion.
John is survived by two sons, Frank Vickie Jamison of Logan and Jeff Carol Thompson of New Lexington; four daughters, Pam Wesley Hicks of Logan, Peggy Steve Shaw of Logan, Cindy Alan Downs of Logan, and Joyce Ken Hill of Buckeye Lake; twelve grandchildren, Amy Tootle, Jason Hicks, Matthew Shaw, Shelby Shaw, Eddie Downs, Shawn Downs, Amanda Downs, Brandi Thompson, John Thompson, Jeffrey Thompson, Jeremy Howdyshell and Joshua Howdyshell; four great grandchildren; and two sisters; Lorna Downing of Columbus and Peggy VanOver of Adelphi.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by one son Joseph John Thompson, two brothers, Carl and Jack Thompson, and two sisters Della Francis and Patty Danner.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, June 3, 2006 at Cardaras Funeral Home 183 E. Second St., Logan, with Pastor Steve Hubbard officiating. Entombment will be in New Fairview Mausoleum, Rockbridge. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, June 2, 2006, from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Hocking County Combined Veterans Organization.
