Wilda F. Brown

Wilda F. Brown, age 81, of Columbus, formerly of Glouster, passed away, Friday June 30, 2006 at her son?s home in Frazeysburg.

She started working in the Goodyear Corsair Aircraft Plant D in Akron, Ohio at the age of 18 during WWII where the women were known as Rosie the Riveter. She returned home after the war and met her husband Richard, married in 1946, and after a few years of living in Glouster they moved to Columbus. She was an active member of the former Village Park and East Linden United Methodist Church where she held many positions. She worked for the Central Ohio Boy Scouts for 19 years. She was former President of the Noreast Women?s Club; President of American Legion Aux. Post 182; President United Methodist Women?s Society at East Linden and Linden Methodist Church; President East Linden Sewing Guild #27; Department President of Ladies Aux. Military Order of the Purple Heart Unit; Department President of Aux. to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp #1. Member of the Riverside Hospital Sewing Guild Executive Board. She was also President of the Northland Lawanis and U.S.O. She also worked in the staging area at the airport MEPS Center. She felt that nothing was to good for our Veterans. She also was the head cook preparing meals for the homeless.

Preceded in death by husband of 57 years Richard Brown in 2004; son Gregory Brown in 2005; her parents Irene and Thomas Smith; her brothers Harold, Russell, Elijah Punch, Bernard; and sisters Louise, and Maxine.

She is survived by son Ronald Dorothy Brown, of Frazeysburg; daughter Becky Rodney Humphrey, of Glouster; daughter-in-law Vicki Brown, of Westerville; granddaughters Alicia and Kristen; grandsons MarkAmy, Jason, Douglass Jessica, Scott; great grandson Zachary Brown; sisters Avenel Holloway and Katherine Scott; special friends Ryan, Jen, and Callie.

Family will receive friends from 4-7pm Sunday at SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL 5554Karl Rd. Columbus, Ohio.

Additional services will be held Monday July 3, 2006 at CARDARAS FUNERAL HOME 30 Main St. Glouster, Ohio where a funeral service will be held at 1:00pm. Family will receive friends 11:00am until time of service. Interment Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster, OH.
