William H. Hobe McDaniel, 87, of New Plymouth, passed away Monday, July 3, 2006 at his residence. He was born June 12, 1919 in Hocking Co., son of the late Jay and Goldie Kennard McDaniel. Hobe is married to Gertrude Huntley McDaniel who survives.
He was a former coal miner, a farmer, an oil well pumper, and retired as a school bus driver for Starr Washington Schools after 25 years. Hobe was a WWII Army veteran, a Mason, avid gardener and bee keeper. His love of the outdoors and farming was passed on to his children.
In addition to his wife, Hobe is survived by his eight children, Marvin Pat McDaniel of Logan, Melvin Reba McDaniel of Nelsonville, Larry Jeaneen McDaniel of New Concord, David Cathy McDaniel of Logan, Sharry Charlie Morehead of Logan, Susan Dave Robinette of Nelsonville, Greg Carol McDaniel of Logan and Kathy Roger Shaw of Logan; nineteen grandchildren, Lisa Pat Hosler, Shelley Mike McCutcheon, Michelle Ryan McClain, Shantelle Sean McLaughlin, Derek McDaniel, Betsy Steve Witt, Cary Steve Belcher, Bryce Rachael McDaniel, Jay McDaniel, Ryan Tiffany McDaniel, Shannon Bill Copley, Teri Morehead, Darci Morehead, Jennifer Jon Heskett, Kyle Robinette, Tyler McDaniel, Hobie Shaw, Huntley Shaw, and Gertie Shaw; twenty-one great grandchildren, Quinn, Katie and Libby Hosler, Maggie, Molly, and Carly McCutcheon, Eric and Whitney McClain, Chelsie and Thomas McLaughlin, Emily and Matthew Witt, Natalie Belcher, Mattea McDaniel, Tori McDaniel, Haylee, Hannah, and Jayden Copley, Alexis Morehead, and Victor Heskett; two brothers, Murle Nettie McDaniel of New Plymouth and Jay McDaniel Jr. of Logan and four sisters, Mildred Loomis of Logan, Ruth Earl Arnett of Logan, Maxine Fred Blanchard of Sunbury and Carolyn Gene Sheline of Rockbridge.
He is preceded in death by his parents, as well as two sisters, Clarabelle Edgar and Gladys Doolittle.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM Saturday, July 8, 2006 at the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second ST., Logan, with Rev. Rick Bennington officiating. Interment will be in New Fairview Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Rockbridge. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday, July 7, 2006 from 4-8 P.M. and on Saturday one hour prior to the services.
