James W. Potter, 81, of Glouster, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at Doctors Hospital, Columbus. He was born July 10, 1925 in Blackwell, Oklahoma, son of the late James W. and Mildred Nall Potter. James was married to Jacqueline Mae Dickson Potter, who survives.
He retired from the United States Marines Corps, worked for Transair and retired from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections. James was a Marine Corps WWII, Korean, and Vietnam Veteran. He was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Athens and VFW Post 9866 in Jacksonville. James was an avid supporter of the Trimble Youth Athletics.
He is survived by three sons, Don Potter of Columbus, Charles Madison of Dallas, Texas and Joseph Potter of Glouster; four daughters, Jeannie Steve Copper of Waverly, Patricia Williamson of Paisley, Florida, Nelle Lehr of Wooster and Tonya Randy McCoy of Glouster; seventeen grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
James is preceded in death by one sister Louise.
Graveside services will be held 2 P.M. Sunday, November 5, 2006 at Maplewood Cemetery, Glouster, with Rev. Steven W. Kanpe and Pastor Lynn Miller officiating. A memorial service will be held 4 P.M. Sunday, November 5, 2006 at Christ Lutheran Church, 69 Mill St., Athens. Friends may call at the Cardaras Funeral Home, 30 Main St., Glouster, on Saturday from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Until.
