Barbara Ellen Canter

Barbara Ellen Canter, 72, of Chauncey, went to be with her Lord, Thursday, December 14, 2006 at Riverside Hospital, Columbus. She was born January 19, 1934 in Chauncey, the daughter of the late Joe E. and Dorothy V. Wicks Staley. She was married to the late Clyde L. ?Sonny? Canter, who passed away June 23, 2003, for 49 ½ years.

Barbara retired from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, where she was a dispatcher, after 20 years of service. She was a member of the First Church of God of Athens, where she was a deacon and a member of Women of the Church of God. Very active in the community, she was Vice President of CCIC and an active member of EMG.

She is survived by sons, Joe and Sheryl Canter of Chauncey and John Canter and Shawn King of Columbus; beloved grandchildren, Tiffany M. Canter and Jake Canter of Chauncey, Scott Seymour of Athens and Richard and Diane Seymour of Lancaster; a great granddaughter, Julianna Seymour; sister-in-law, Elaine Staley; nephews, Ted Staley and Greg Staley; nieces, Paula and Jack Mauger and Sherry and Tim Clark; several great nieces and nephews; cousin and good friends, Emma and Ronnie McKibben and many other friends including lifelong friends Paul and Shirley Ross.

In addition to her husband and parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin D. ?Ike? Staley.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette Street, Nelsonville with Pastor Gerald Dunaway officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery New Addition, Nelsonville. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and Tuesday, one hour prior to the service.
