Robert L. Meredith

Robert L. ?Bob? Meredith, 79, of The Plains, passed away Saturday, December 30, 2006 at Doctors Hospital Nelsonville. He was born November 15, 1927 in Hocking County, son of the late Richard and Doris Kilpatrick Meredith.

Bob was the retired owner and operator of Meredith Oil and Ice and formerly owned the Athens Mi-T-Mart and the Sure-N-Stop Convenience store in The Plains. He was a graduate of the Murray City High School Class of 1945 and a proud member of his high school basketball team and attended Ohio University. He was an Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II and a member of many organizations including, Chauncey AMVETS Post 53 where he was Past Post Commander, VFW Post 7174 in The Plains, Murray City Eagles, Murray City American Legion Post 420, Athens Masonic Lodge, Athens Elks, Sportsman Club and the Redmen Lodge.

He is survived by his companion of 29 years, Alice Neal-LaGruth, two sons, Dennis Meredith of Nelsonville and Mark Lisa Meredith of Shade; two daughters, Joyce Mike Heil of Elida and Lisa John Hudnell of Blanchester; grandchildren, Robbie, Amy, Shelly, Matthew, Crystal, Casey, and Chelsie; 6 great grandchildren; two sisters, Marcelyn Paul Dixon of The Plains and Grace Jack Wooten of Nelsonville and an aunt, Kate Meredith of Cincinnati.

In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Jean Canter Meredith.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 4, 2007 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Rev. Paul Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville where a military graveside service will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the United Cerebral Palsy of Central Ohio, 440 Industrial Mile Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43228.
