Garland Holley

December 9, 1916 — January 3, 2007

Garland Holley, 90, of New Plymouth, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2007 at Doctors Hospital, Nelsonville. He was born December 9, 1916 in Louisa, Kentucky, son of the late James and Mary Diamond Holley. Garland is the widow of the late Fern
Stump Holley.

He was loved by his family and his community, and inspired many with his passion for music. In the 1960?s, he and several of his children had a Sunday morning gospel music show on the radio and he also traveled to numerous churches to share his talent. He was a recorded songwriter and was known as the Country Hymn Singer from the Echoing Hills. He also had a love for gardening, and even at the age of 89 enjoyed sharing vegetables from his huge garden. The County Hymn Singer also known as husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather, will be remembered with love and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by two sons, Rodney Rebecca Holley of Athens and Jeffrey Sharon Holley of New Plymouth; two daughters, Angela Jan Nilsen of Albany and Evelyn Richard Sheets of Millfield; son-in-law, Jesse Brooks of Cleveland; two daughters-in-law Phyllis Holley and Ella Holley both of Athens; eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Garland is preceded in death by is parents, wife, sons, Danny, Randy, and Larry Holley, an infant son James G. Jr., a daughter, Judy Brooks, three brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday, January 7, 2007 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, with Pastor Carl Radcliff officiating. Interment will be in Asbury Cemetery, Hocking County. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
