Lawrence M. Howard

Lawrence M. Howard, 94, of Junction City, formerly of Logan, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2007 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Logan. He was born July 12, 1912 in Athens County, son of the late Albert and Sylvia Martin Howard. Lawrence is the widow of the late Helen Evans Howard who passed away October 30, 1982.

Lawrence retired from C & O Railroad after 43 years where he started out as a painter and worked his way up to a railroad engineer. He was a member of Community of Christ Church in Logan and a life member of the United Transportation Union.

He is survived by one daughter Karen Larry Vorhees of Junction City; a son-in-law James Crook of Pickens, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Brian Teresa Vorhees of Rockbridge, Lori Roger Howdyshell of Junction City, Blake Mary Crook of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Elaine Crook of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Brad Crook of Charlotte, North Carolina; six great grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, Lane Vorhees and Rex, Jenna and Megan Howdyshell; one brother Max Howard of Gilman Illinois; two sisters, Lillian Hormell of Kansas City, Missouri and Ruth Grey of Barberton, Ohio; sister-in-law Margaret Howard of Huntsville, Alabama and several nieces, nephews, and special friends.

Lawrence is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and daughter, Sondra Crook; brother, Charles Howard and sister, Grace Whitely.

A graveside service will be held 11 A.M. Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville with Elder Alan Stretch officiating. Friends may call at the Cardaras Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 183 E. Second St., Logan on Tuesday from 5-8.
