Paul E. Eddie Newman, 69, of Logan, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on May 19, 2007, after a long illness. Known as ?Candyman? to his grandchildren and for his dry humor and sarcastic wit, he will be missed by all. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, as well as an avid sports fan.

Born September 6, 1937, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Imogene Woodruff Newman.

He was a 1955 graduate of Buchtel-York High School and a United States Army Veteran, as well as a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 543 in Nelsonville. He served as a driver?s license examiner for the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a salesman for Streitman Biscuit Company; general manager for Dannie?s Mobile Homes; president of the Hocking Valley Mobile Homes; and retired as general manager of Tansky Motors in Logan.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan Herdman Newman, four daughters, Cathy Gregg Oakley of Buchtel; Janey Bill Saving of Logan; Tammy Jim Potts of Pickerington; Paula Anderson of Columbus; and one son, Paul Sonja Glass of Florida. Ten grandchildren, Cory Oakley, Erin ?Bugs? Lobo, Melinda Norfleet, Samantha Diamond, Johnny Saving, Jonah Saving, Katie Byers, Joni Anne Anderson, Cassidi Anderson and Sarah Byers. Five great grandchildren, Easton Elliott, Hunter Diamond, Kristian Lobo, Lilly Diamond and Isaiah Robinson. Four sisters, Prentice John L. Sullivan, Debbie Newman, both of Buchtel; Rosemary ?Podie" Swart of Albany; Cindy Jim Hutchings of Columbus. Three brothers, Robert Sue Newman of Urbana; Tom Joan Newman and Mickey Nancy Newman, both of Texas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Letitia Newman.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, Ohio. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville where a military graveside service will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
