Michael O'Connor Powell

Michael O'Connor Powell, 76, of Sugar Grove, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at his residence. He was born February 13, 1931 in Woods Co., West Virginia, Son of the late Arthur and Eleanor Adkinson Powell. He was married to Grace Williams Powell of Sugar Grove, who survives.

He retired from Newark Air Force Base as a Civil Engineer, was a United States Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and the Cuban Missile Crisis and was a member of the West Pleasant Hill U.B. Church.

In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by two sons, Michael Dan Powell of Sugar Grove and Patrick Chana Powell of Rockbridge; a daughter, Julie V. Young of Rockbridge; four grandchildren, Amanda Powell, Rachel Montgomery, Patrick Powell II, and Rebekah Young; a great grandson, Eric Kinney II and three sisters, Jean Dittmar of Zanesville, Lois Evans of Colorado and Mary Jane Bowlby of Logan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Melissa Young and three brothers, Robert, Arthur and Paul Powell.

Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, May 26, 2007 at the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan with Pastor Al Carter officiating. Interment will be in New Fairview Memorial Gardens, Rockbridge, where a military graveside service will be conducted by the Hocking County Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
