Myrtle Irene Conway

Conway, Myrtle Irene nee Lundgren, 91, of Chillicothe, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 7, 2007, at Adena Medical Center, Chillicothe, Ohio.

Born on September 2, 1916 in Youngstown, Ohio, she was the 7thof the 9 children born to her parents, Ivor Gustav & Eva nee Malmesbury Lundgren and at the time of her death the last surviving of her siblings.

Growing up she was an avid swimmer, skater, and trophy winning tennis player. She attended Miami University in the late1930s and then married her beloved husband of 67 years, Emmett A. Conway; together they raised six children, living most of this time in McArthur, Ohio, where she was a member of the McArthur First Presbyterian Church, Elizabethans, and Eastern Star. She returned to college in the early 1960s and graduated from Ohio University with a BS in Education in1965. She celebrated her 50th birthday and 25th wedding anniversary during the same year.

She retired from Vinton County Schools having taught in Wilksville, Swan, and Zaleski through two generations of students. After retirement she enjoyed traveling the world with her husband and developed interests in antiques, gardening, and ballroom and square dancing.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Emmett, plus her six children: Carol Jean Yegerlehner Larry d. of Fairborn, Barbara Sue Elbert Earl of Orlando, Florida, Sandra Lee Morrissey William of Hartsdale, New York, Emmett A. Conway, Jr. of Athens, Jennifer Kaye Pesta Patrick of Dublin, and Richard Bruce Conway Mary of Pickerington, and eleven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 11, at the McArthur First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kay Puckett officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Friends may call at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High Street, McArthur, on Monday, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to the McArthur First Presbyterian Church, 202 W. High Street, McArthur, OH 45651.
