Wilma B. Hughes, 81, of Nelsonville, passed away, Wednesday, September 26, 2007 at Riverside Hospital, Columbus. She was born August 29, 1926 in Nelsonville, the daughter of the late Oliver and Pearl Glenn Bishop. She was married to Leo L. Hughes of Nelsonville, for 61 years.

Wilma was a 1944 graduate of Nelsonville High School and a graduate of Ohio University. She was retired from the Ohio Department of Human Services and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. A devoted member and 4 time past president of the Nelsonville Emblem Club #97 and a former State Emblem Club Officer. A member of Venus Chapter #76 O.E.S, Logan, Secretary and member of the Board of Directors of the Nelsonville High School Restoration Foundation and a member of the Nelsonville City Zoning Board of Appeals and a former member of the Stuart Opera House Guild.

She is survived by son, Gary Cammie Hughes of Austin, Texas; daughter, Beverly Russ Stump of New Marshfield; seven grandchildren, Julianna, Steven, Susan, Angel, Sean, Stacey and Amity; 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Bill Maggie Bishop of Florida and Junior Bishop of Logan; sisters, Anita Bill McDonald of Nelsonville, Ann Bishop of Nelsonville and Loretta Barry Brown of Carroll and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Rev. Paul VanHorn officiating. Interment will be at Connett Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home where Nelsonville Emblem Club #97 will conduct a service at 7:30 PM.
