John James Levering

John James ?Jim? Levering, 85, of New Marshfield, formerly of Nelsonville, passed away, Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Pickering House, Lancaster. He was born October 22, 1921 in Athens County, son of the late William Edward and Flossie Marie Johnson Levering. He was married to Edna Mae Lowery Levering of New Marshfield, for 56 years.

Jim was retired from Armco Steel in Logan and was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran. He was formerly employed in Nelsonville at the old Ford and Chevrolet garages. He was a former York Township Trustee, a member of the Nelsonville VFW and the Nelsonville American Legion. Jim was a great outdoorsman and loved hunting, fishing, and boating. More than anything he loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by wife, Edna Mae; son, Jeff Rita Levering of Nelsonville; daughter, Christy Keith Young of Nelsonville; five grandchildren, John, Doug, Eric Brittany Derek and Kristian; two great grandchildren, Tuck and Tanner; a sister, Frances Jack Perry of Nelsonville and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son, Stephen Levering; sister, Betty Mace and brother, Max Levering.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Pastor David Cogar officiating. Interment will be at Connett Cemetery, Nelsonville where a military graveside service will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call Tuesday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
