Raymond Earl Atwood

September 7, 1923 — October 10, 2007

Raymond Earl Atwood, of Londonderry, passed away from this life on October 10, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 7, 1923 to the late Harry and Lena Geer Atwood in Vinton County, Ohio. On November 8, 1943 he married the former Viola ?Maxine? Arganbright Atwood who survives.

Surviving children are Karen Larry Carpenter, Vicki Dennis Mitchell and Ron Roni Atwood all of Londonderry; grandchildren, Brenda Faught and Heather Mike Congrove; three step grandchildren and Great grandchildren, Kailyn, Micah and Hunter Congrove. Also surviving is his best friend and brother-in-law, Earl Arganbright.

Earl was preceded in death by sisters, Wylodeen Sowers and Arlene Atwood, brother-in-law Eugene Sowers and sister-in-law, Linda Arganbright and his special grandson David Carpenter, whom he loved very much.

He served in the Army?s 266th Panther Engineering Division during World War II in the European Theater. He retired after 39 years of service from the Mead Corporation and was part owner of the A & A Texaco Station on Old Route 50. He also served as the Assistant Fire Chief of Harrison Township Fire and Rescue Department of Vinton County. Earl loved his family and they loved his as much. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Graveside services will be held 11 A.M., Saturday, October 13, 2007 at the Boblett Cemetery, Vinton County with Rev. Jim McFadden officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., on Friday, from 5-8 P.M.
