Betty M. Berta

Betty M. Berta, 82, of Logan, passed away Thursday, November 8, 2007 at Mt. Carmel West Hospital in Columbus. She was born February 23, 1925 in Geauga Co., Ohio, daughter of the late Frank G. and Florence Kronk Meyer. Betty was married to S. Louis Berta for 56 years, who survives.

She graduated from Huntsburg High School in Geauga Co. in 1943, attended Evanston Collegiate Institute Kendall College earning her degree in Christian Education Planning. She supported many Civil Rights causes in 1940?s. She was a former linotype operator and reporter for the Geauga Record Newspaper, was employed at the Geauga County extension office and the Chardon United Methodist Church. Betty was secretary of the Ohio Jaycees and worked as an Optometric Assistant for her husband Dr. S. Louis Berta. In the Columbus area she was active in Jaycee Wives. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, bowling, R.V. travel and life in the Hocking Hills with her husband and German Shepard dogs.

In addition to her husband, Betty is survived by sons, Tom Berta of LeRoy, Ohio, Steve Lisa McVey Berta of Carmel, IN, Mike Lynn Berta of Columbus, and Dan Debra Berta of Seattle, WA and eight grandchildren, Andy, Heather, Katie, Meg and Adam Berta and Doug, Steven and Jeff Casady.

She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Liz Smith Berta and sister, Janet Maltry.

Funeral services will be held 10 A.M. Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan. Interment will be in Shaw Cemetery, Hocking County. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4-8 P.M.

The family suggests contributions be made to the Rotary Scholarship Fund, 14075 SR 374, Rockbridge, Ohio 43149.
