Charles R. Zimmerman

Charles R. Zimmerman, 90, of McArthur, passed away Friday, December 7, 2007 at Twin Maples Nursing Home in McArthur. He was born August 27, 1917 in Vinton County, son of the late Walter T. and Cora Ward Zimmerman. Charlie was the widow of the late Dorothy Irene Lee Zimmerman.

He retired from Austin Powder after 51 years of service, was a WWII Navy Veteran and was a life member of the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Charlie and his wife started Vinton Teen Center in 1966.

He is survived by two sons, Mike Connie Zimmerman of Ocala, Florida and Gary Denise Zimmerman of Dundas; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and one sister, Anna McCray of Starr.

In addition to his parents and wife, Charlie was preceded in death by one son, Larry Zimmerman; a granddaughter, Lisa Sowers; two sisters and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Monday, December 10, 2007, at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Danny Minton officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur, with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M.
