Betty Jane Womsley Johnson, 90, of Nelsonville, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2007, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in The Plains. She was born September 21, 1917 in Nelsonville, daughter of the late Clarence and Marie Young Womsley. Betty is the widow of the late Gilbert Johnson, who passed away October 28, 1973.
She graduated from Nelsonville High School in 1935 and assisted her husband in the Johnson Funeral home for 36 years. Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Nelsonville, the Women?s Society of Christian Service, the Queen Esther Sunday School Class, Martha?s Circle and held various offices in the church. Betty was a 69 year member of the Eastern Star, a former member of the Stuart Opera House Guild, a volunteer at Mt. St. Mary and Doctors Hospital, a member of the Nelsonville Service Organization and a former member of the Business & Professional Women?s Club.
She is survived by two sons, Richard Cindy Johnson and Paul Johnson both of Nelsonville; grandchildren, David Jackie Johnson of Amesville, Ann Marie Scott Clayton of Bellefontaine, Jeremy Tabitha Johnson of Athens, Tessie Johnson of Nelsonville and Jennifer Chuck Sullivan of Thornville; great grandchildren, Hannah, Justin and Whitney Clayton of Bellefontaine, Kyle Johnson of Athens, Kaytlynn, Sheridan, Madelynn and Peyton Michael Sullivan, all of Thornville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Friday, December 14, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church of Nelsonville, 205 W. Columbus St., Nelsonville, with Rev. Karen Walters officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, on Wednesday from 6-8 P.M., Thursday, from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. and on Friday at the church one hour prior to the services.
