Ralph L. Coffey Sr., 67, of Nelsonville, passed away, Thursday, December 27, 2007 at his residence. He was born February 4, 1940 in New Plymouth, son of the late Edward S. and Anna Mae Burley Coffey. He was married to Sylvia M. Marstiller Coffey, of Nelsonville, who survives.
Ralph was retired from the Athens Messenger, attended Asbury United Methodist Church and was an avid motor sports fan including NASCAR, dirt track racing and demolition derbies.
In addition to his wife, Sylvia, he is survived by sons, Mark Sherry Coffey of Athens, Sam Heather Coffey of Haydenville; daughter, Anna Stephen Hembree of Nelsonville, grandchildren, Sarah, Michelle, Katrina, Jessica, Jamie, Brianna, Abby, Alex and Autumn; great grandchildren, Emily and Devin; brothers, Larry Patty Coffey of Zaleski and Roger Kathy Coffey of Grove City, sisters, Marilyn Lowe and Rosie Littlejohn both of Oregonia and Judy Keith DePue of McArthur, special friends, Richard Bruce, Matt Thompson and Tom Polley and his beloved dog, Sissy.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Edward and David Coffey; sisters, Betty Ellis, Doris Hamilton and Joyce Woodrum and three infant siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, December 31, 2007 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Pastor Walt Goble officiating. Cremation will follow the service. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
