Harvey M. Nickels, 89, of McArthur, passed away Tuesday, February 12, 2008, at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was born November 5, 1918 in Richland Township, Vinton County, son of the late Roy and Bessie Storer Nickels. Harvey was the widower of his first wife, the late Helen Bevard Nickels and his second wife, the late Erma Faye Beard Nickels.
He was a foreman for the Austin Powder Company, retiring after 33 years of service. Harvey was a WWII Army Veteran where he was in the 11th Armored Division, 21st Infantry Company C, serving in the European Theatre. He was also a member of the VFW Post #5299, DAV Post #45, American Legion Post #371 and the McArthur Fraternal Order of Eagles Post #2279.
He is survived by his son, Jerry Roma Kay Nickels of McArthur; granddaughter, Audra Lou DiOrio; great granddaughter, Isabella K. DiOrio; one brother, Ed Alice Nickels of McArthur and a sister, Myrtle Mitchell of McArthur
Harvey was preceded in death by a grandson, Brent Nickels; two brothers, Orville and William Nickels and two sisters, Mary Reynolds and Florence Murdock.
Funeral services will be 11 A.M., Saturday, February 16, 2008, at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur with Rev. Danny Minton officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 4-8 P.M. where there will be an Eagles service at 7:30.
