Howard J. Whitmore, 62, of Logan, passed away, Monday, April 14, 2008 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital, Logan. He was born October 2, 1945 in Nelsonville, son of the late Lewis Whitmore and Maggie Birtcher Whitmore. He was married to Mable Thompson Whitmore, of Logan.

Howard was retired from Goodyear in Logan, was a 1964 graduate of Nelsonville High School and a United States Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Nelsonville Church of the Epiphany, Delta Lodge #207 in McArthur, Logan American Legion and Logan VFW Post # 6854.

In addition to his wife, Mable, he is survived by sons, Brad Beth Whitmore of Stow, Lewis Rhonda Whitmore of Londonderry; grandchildren, Lewis, Jr., James, Tiffani and Lindsay; brothers, his twin Harold Barbara Whitmore of Nelsonville, John Susan Whitmore of Parma, Terry Pam Whitmore of Marysville; Phyllis Floyd of Nelsonville, Margaret Ronnie Segraves and Joan Black both of Louisiana; stepsisters Brenda Nye of Lancaster and Beverly of Indiana and special friend, Kim Stivison.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip Whitmore, stepmother, Virgene Whitmore and stepbrothers, Porter Barron and Denver Smathers.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Deacons William McCleery and William Bales officiating. Interment will be at Connett Cemetery, Nelsonville where a military graveside service will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home where a Masonic service will be held at 7:30 PM.
