John Franklin Conkle

John Franklin Conkle, 71, of Buchtel, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2008, at Doctors West Hospital in Columbus. He was born August 18, 1936 in Buchtel, son of the late John William and Lola Martin Conkle. John was married to Shirley Ann Hale Conkle, who survives, for 52 years.

He was formerly a police officer, and worked for the electric company and worked in several coal mines and was a life member of America Motorcyclist Association.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by daughters, Karen Jack Teal of Lancaster and Doris Curtis Gilden Conkle of Buchtel; grandchildren, Karrie Ann Teal of Lancaster, Jackie Shawn Teal Lewis of Lancaster, Troy Lane Amodio Jr. of Buchtel and Tiana Lynn Dink Amodio Farley of Buchtel; great grandchildren, Jack, Paris and Izaac; special nephew, Bob Lee Smathers of Buchtel and a special friend, John Miller of Nelsonville.

He was preceded in death by a son, John Charles Conkle, brothers, Starling, Elmer, James and Lloyd Bowen and sisters, Alice Smathers and Doris Manning.

Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, May 29, 2008, at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Rev. Teddy Martin officiating. Interment will be in Whitmore Cemetery, Buchtel. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 6-8 P.M. and on Wednesday, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
