Raymond H. Brooks

Raymond H. Brooks, 87, of New Marshfield, passed away, Sunday, June 15, 2008. He was born July 2, 1920 in Carbondale, son of the late Marve and Bessie Treadway Brooks. He was married to June Lowry Brooks, who survives.

Raymond served as a member of the Coast Guard for three years during World War II, Graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelors Degree in Education and a Masters degree in Administration. He spent the first two years of his teaching career at Wakefield High School in Pike County. He was then a teacher, coach and later, principal in the Waterloo School District beginning in 1951. He was then Principal of Alexander High School from 1966 until becoming Superintendent of the Alexander Local Schools and retiring in 1977. He was then hired as Superintendent of Athens County Schools and served in that capacity from 1980–1985. He was a member of the Constitution Lodge for more than 50 years.

In addition to his wife, June, he is survived by sons, Robert Phyllis Brooks of Albany, George Patti Brooks of New Marshfield and John Brooks of New Marshfield; daughter, Pam Mitchell of Belpre; thirteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and a brother, Willard N. ""Bill"" Elsie Brooks of New Marshfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Rev. David Cogar officiating. Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery, Hocking County where a military graveside service will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call Tuesday, June 17, 2008 from 5-8 PM at the funeral home where a Masonic service will be conducted by the Constitution Lodge at 7:30 PM
