Ralph E. Davis

Ralph E. Davis, 67, of Nelsonville, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by the friends and family he loved, Monday, July 7, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 8, 1941, in Nelsonville, son of the late David W. and Mildred Mae Buck Davis.

He retired from GTE and was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Ralph was employed by Peoples Bank as a courier until the time of his illness. He served the City of Nelsonville for 27 years; he was a police officer for 2 years, a councilman, and eventually mayor of the city. He enjoyed gardening and hunting. Ralph was a Life Member of the Nelsonville Elks Lodge #543 and a member of the Murray City Eagles.

He is survived by a son, Ralph ""Tom"" Mary Ann Davis of Nelsonville; daughter, Vicki Cliff Emery of Hull, Georgia; friend and companion, Susan Harmony, of Nelsonville; four grandchildren, Rob Chubb, Kandi Kurt Saunders Chubb, Melissa Stivison and Michael Jodie Passon Elliott; seven great grandchildren; five brothers, David R. Katherine Davis of Logan, Clarence L. Mary Ellen Davis of Michigan, Charles H. Davis of North Perry, Ohio, Paul A. Marty Davis of Nelsonville and Dean W. Carol Davis of Los Alamos, California; three sisters, Mable L. Elmer Potter of Chillicothe, Ruby E. Hayden of Nelsonville and Jessie M. Campbell of Nelsonville; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by a brother, Hubert L. Davis.

A memorial service will be held at 7 P.M., Saturday, July 12, 2008, at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, with Cara Clifford officiating. Ralph's wishes were to be cremated. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, from 3-7 P.M., with an Elks Service being held at 6:30 P.M.
