William Francis Boyer, 76, of Athens, passed away Monday, July 14, 2008, at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe. He was born June 26, 1932, in Athens County, son of the late Francis Sylas Boyer and Norma and William Kisor. William was married for 32 years, to the late Norma Davis Boyer.
He served eight years in the United States Army and was a Korean War Veteran. William received the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Medal. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3477 in Athens, worked for fifteen years for the City of Athens and worked eight years for Ohio University.
He is survived by a daughter, Martha Wesley McCoy Boyer of Athens; four grandchildren, Shayne Sherri Maffin Barnhart, Brandon Kelly Kisor Barnhart, Jordan Boyer and Jefferson Davis; one great grandchild, Boen Barnhart; two brothers, Fred Kisor of Albany and Bernie Diane Boyer of Fairborn, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, William was preceded in death by a son, James Davis and brother, Owen Kisor.
Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Friday, July 18, 2008, at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Rev. Dave Cogar officiating. Interment will be in New Marshfield Cemetery with military graveside services being conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday one hour prior to the service.
