Ann L. Mckinley

June 12, 1915 — August 18, 2008

Ann L. McKinley, 93, of Nelsonville, passed away Monday, August 18, 2008 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan. She was born June 12, 1915, in Lucasville, Ohio, daughter of the late Jesse C. and Mabel C. Bonzo McKinley.

Ann was the owner of Smart Set Beauty Salon for 73 years, she continued to work until within 3 weeks of her death. Ann attended Lillian Johnson Beauty College. She was a Valley High School Graduate in Lucasville, in 1932 she was a member of the Scioto County Basketball Championship team and a tennis champion in women's doubles and mixed doubles while in high school. Ann was an avid golfer and member of Southeast Ohio Golf League Tournament Team from the early 1950's until 1994, during that time; she made 2 holes in one. In 1990 she qualified for the National Senior Olympics in bowling and golf, in Syracuse, New York, and competed in the Senior Olympics in Golf and received a bronze medal. Ann was recently honored by the Brass Ring Women's Golf Association for her contributions and participation in women's golf. She was an avid crossword puzzler.

Ann is survived by two sisters, Ruth McKinley Malone of Marion and Mary Jane McKinley of Nelsonville; her extended family, goddaughter, Cindy Rick Wilkins of Lancaster, their three sons, A.J., Matthew and Nathan Wilkins; special friend, Kathryn McCoy of Nelsonville; nephews, Joe Jo Ann Malone of Lancaster, Fred Terri Malone of Marion, J. William McKinley of Lucasville, David and Adam McKinley of Cincinnati; nieces, Cheryl Vernon Prostler of Topeka, Kansas, Linda McKinley of Ashland, Kentucky and Betty Lou Vanderpool of Lexington, Kentucky; many grand nieces and nephews as well as great grand nieces and nephews and special friends and neighbors, Jesse and Betty White of Nelsonville and Harry and Norma Dickerson of Logan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Robert and Frederick McKinley and a sister, Kathryn Schuler Rheinscheld.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 A.M., Thursday, August 21, 2008 in the Cardaras Funeral Home, 183 E. Second St., Logan, with Rev. Karen Walters officiating. Interment will be in Lucasville Cemetery at 2:30 P.M. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. and one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
