James Edward Darnell

James Edward Darnell, 69, of Patriot, Ohio, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2008 at his residence. He was born April 3, 1939, in Doanville, Ohio, son of the late Foster Skinner and Esther Lucille Jones Windlin. James was married for 35 years to Ruth Eloise Foreman Darnell, who survives.

He was an honorably discharged Veteran of the United States Army and Navy. James served two tours of duty in Vietnam with the Seabees. He was currently the National Service Officer for the Seabees under Congressman Charlie Wilson. James served in law enforcement for over 35 years and was the former Murray City Police Chief. He was a member of the VFW in Carriere, Missouri, American Legion in Gallipolis and Masonic Lodge. James was a loving father and devoted husband.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, James April McCoy of Patriot; daughters, Victoria Robert Babin of St. Louis, Tannya Mark Wilson of Callahan, Florida, Teresa Leonard Kofsky of Charlotte, North Carolina and Cindy Dan Grubb of The Plains; grandchildren, Mark Wilson Jr., Nathan McCoy, Robbie Pickens, Jerry Pickens, Meredith and Blake Kofsky and Megan Darnell; four great grandchildren; sisters, Maria Tatalos of Columbus and Stephanie Tatalos of Denton, Texas; two nieces and one nephew.

James was preceded in death by his mother and father and his adopted father, Clarence Darnell.

A funeral service and celebration of Jim's life will be held at 12 noon, Tuesday, October 28, 2008 in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Pastor Don Swick officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery New Addition, Nelsonville where a military graveside service will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, from 9am until the time of the service.
