Marcelene F. Gates

Marcelene F. Gates, 85, of Hamden, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2008 in Four Winds Nursing Facility in Jackson. She was born October 22, 1923, in Logan, West Virginia, daughter of the late William and Bessie Rife Canterbury. Marcelene was the widow of the late Delbert Gates.

She was a member of the Hamden Church of The Nazarene.

Marcelene is survived by a son, William A. Gates of Austin, Texas; daughters, Latischia Gates of Mesa, Arizona, Deborah Terry Bash of Lancaster and Elaine Gates of Hamden; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren and a brother, Benjamin Canterbury of Dayton, Ohio.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia L. Gates; sisters, Garnet Bailey and Mary Hall and brothers, Ralph and Ray Canterbury.

Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Sunday, November 2, 2008 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Don Fairchild officiating. Interment will be in Hamden Cemetery, Hamden. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, from 4-8 P.M.
