Paul A. Midkiff, 82, of Nelsonville, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Doctors Hospital Nelsonville. He was born September 20, 1926 in Nelsonville, son of the late Orvil C. and Ethel Rawlings Midkiff.
He was a graduate of Nelsonville High School, where he was a member of the Football team. He was a member of the First Christian Church and a life member of V.F.W. Post 3467. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and served in the Philippines as a Sergeant. He received the Roland Pierce Community Award, served on the Parade of the Hills Parade Committee for 22 years, served as a volunteer fireman for 22 years and was active with Boy Scout Troop 69 and the Athletic Boosters for many years.
He retired from Columbus Southern Electric Company AEP after 40 years, 30 years as a lineman and 10 years as a supervisor.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Jean Ross Midkiff and three children, Edward Linda Midkiff of Point Pleasant, WV, Mrs. Paula Chris Coffman of Coshocton, and Clark Midkiff of Nelsonville; three grandchildren, Shawn Stephanie Coffman of Pickerington, Josh Ashley Coffman of Coshocton and Amity Oshel of Point Pleasant, WV; 4 great grandchildren, Max and Chloe Coffman of Pickerington, McKayla Oshel and Colton Fridley of Point Pleasant, WV; sisters, Mrs. Jane Wid Canter and Mrs. Salley Robert Shinn both of Nelsonville; sister-in-law Alma Jo Midkiff of Nelsonville and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Garnet Harold Withem, Maxine Harold Dixon, Jean James Whitlatch; and brothers, Warner and Orvil ""Peach"" Midkiff.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 7, 2009 at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville with Pastor Tom Hanning officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery New Addition, Nelsonville where a military graveside service will be conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call Friday, March 6, 2009 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home.
