Harlis Ray Laferty, 68, of McArthur, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2009 at his residence. He was born August 31, 1940, in Garrett, Kentucky, son of the late Arthur and Alma Holbrooks Laferty. Ray was married to Brenda Simmons Laferty, who survives.
He retired from Mead Manufacturing after 35 years, was a Vietnam Army Veteran and attended McArthur Free Will Baptist Church. Ray was a member of the American Legion Post #62 in Chillicothe and the Amvets Post #4 in Chillicothe.
In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by a son, Michael Kelly Laferty of McArthur; a daughter, Carolyn Greg Booth of Kentucky; a stepdaughter, Virginia Garten of McArthur; four grandchildren, Jessica, Luke and Drew Laferty and Sarah McNichols; three brothers, Bob Ann Laferty of McArthur, Dean Marcella Laferty of McArthur and Bill Laferty of Hamden; two sisters, Wanda Lee Slone of Albany and Vivian Bill Withrow of McArthur and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Helen Laferty and two brothers, Archie and Charles Laferty.
Funeral services will be held 11 A.M., Thursday, March 19, 2009 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Jim Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Allensville, with military graveside honors conducted by the Ross County Veteran Honor Guard. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 6-8 P.M.
