William H. Taylor, 78, of McArthur, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Hocking Valley Community Hospital in Logan. He was born December 9, 1930, in Columbus, son of the late Ted and Dorothy Sweeney Taylor. William was married to Nancy Bailey Taylor, who survives.
As a boy he sang with the Columbus Boy's Choir, was an avid hunter and fisherman and shared his love of the outdoors with his children.
He enlisted in the Army Air Core in 1948 and served 22 years in such places as Okinawa, Saudi Arabia, Chile and various assignments in the United States. Bill retired from the Air Force in 1969 as a Chief Master Sergeant, having received the rare commendation of the Legion of Merit.
After retiring from the service, he was head ranger at Lake Hope State Park, Director of Southeastern Ohio Emergency Medical Service and was in charge of Juvenile Services with Vinton County Probate Courts. Bill was a member of the Veteran's Commission of Vinton County and Chair of the Housing and Urban Development of Vinton County.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Nancy Bailey Taylor of McArthur; sons, William David Gail of Chillicothe, Michael Shawn Becky of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania and Timothy Dennis Connie of Marysville; a daughter, Tobbi Timms John of McArthur; eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A Military service conducted by the Vinton County VFW Post #5299 will be held 6:30 P.M., Thursday, May 21, 2009 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur. At the request of Mr. Taylor, cremation has taken place. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M.
