David Mervin Stumbo

July 14, 1918 — June 20, 2009

David Mervin Stumbo, 90, of Nelsonville, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, June 20, 2009 at his residence. He was born July 14, 1918, in Oak Hill, Ohio, son of the late Earnest Everett and Minnie Reese Stumbo. David was the widower of the late June Lafollette Stumbo.

He was formerly employed at Hillary's Shoe Shop in Nelsonville and retired from the City of Nelsonville Water Plant. He was a member of the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church.

David is survived by a daughter, Linda Stumbo of Nelsonville; sons, Kevin Naomi Stumbo of North Carolina, Brent Tamara Stumbo and Bruce Stumbo both of Nelsonville; seven grandchildren, Gregory Stumbo, Melissa Stumbo, Kristen Stumbo, David Heidi Stumbo, Felicia Chris Nelson, Maria Isai Alvarez and Sarah Stumbo; five great grandchildren and two brothers, Dee Stumbo of Oak Hill, Ohio and Keith Stumbo of Georgia.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, David Thomas Stumbo, brothers, Tom, Ray, Everett, John, Bob, Hamer; two infant brothers and sisters, Betty Webber, Ann Mae Marley and Morgan Barker.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, June 23, 2009 in the Nelsonville Wesleyan Church with Pastor Mike Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Nelsonville. Friends may call at the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville, on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the church.

The family suggests that memorial contributions in Mr. Stumbo's memory be made to Appalachian Community Hospice, 30 Herrold Ave., Athens, Ohio 45701.
