Charles Daniel Pearce, 86, of Columbus, formerly of Radcliff, passed away Friday, July 31, 2009 at Monterey Care Center in Grove City. He was born January 11, 1923, in Radcliff, son of the late Jay M. and Fannie Riley Pearce. Charles was married to Evelyn Marie Shaffer Pearce, who survives.
Charles retired after 34 years of service from American Aggregates and retired from Southwestern City Schools at the age of 80. He was a WWII Veteran, serving under Major Frank Merrill in the famed Merrill's Marauders. They took back Burma Road from the Japanese, and with a great loss of men, Charles came home Christmas Day, 1945. He was a member of Brown Road Community Church, Wellston VFW Post #9020, a 62 year member of the Wilkesville American Legion Post # 476, a member of the NRA, a member of the North America Hunting Club and a member of the Southeast Conservation Club.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by Stepsons, Jerry Brandon of Hamden and Thomas Lee Amy Brandon of Hilliard; grandchildren, Jamie Ryan Engard of Grove City, Brenda Eric Kuder of California, Scott Twila Brandon of Arizona, Mark Brandon of Arizona and Michael Brandon of Columbus; great grandchildren, Bobby Varney of Indiana, Joe Varney of California, Krista Varney of Grove City and Tyler and Travis Engard of Grove City; brothers, Melvin Pat Pearce of Circleville and Merrill Gail Pearce of Waverly; sister-in-law, Grace Graves and family of Gahanna; nieces, Vickie Larry Kemper, Emily Campbell, Barbara Zervis, Anita Ken Weaver, Debbie Charlie Conrad, Margaret Seelig and Cindy Osssing; nephews, David Bernetta Pearce, James Sharon Pearce, Ronald Cinda Pearce, Kenneth Pearce, Wesley Pearce, Joseph Pearce, Daniel Pearce, Harold Roof, Errol Ray Dorothy Parsons, Mike Bethel and Jay Campbell; special friends, Therman Beatrice Ellis and John Long and several other neighbors and friends.
Charles was preceded in death by brothers, Harold, Donald and Clyde Pearce; sisters, Alberta Parsons and Margaret Zervis and a nephew, Ralph Roof.
Funeral services will be held 1 P.M., Tuesday, August 4, 2009 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Ron Baxter officiating. Interment will be in Radcliff Cemetery, with military graveside services being conducted by the Wilkesville American Legion Post #476 and the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call Monday, August 3, 2009 at the Schoedinger-Norris Funeral Home, 3920 Broadway, Grove City, Ohio 43123 from 4 P.M. - 6 P.M. and at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W.
