Robert H. Lorimer, Jr.

November 21, 1925 — July 30, 2009

Robert H. Lorimer, Jr., 83, of McArthur, died peacefully at home in McArthur, Thursday, July 30, 2009. He was born November 21, 1925, in Columbus, the eldest son of the late Robert H. and Winnie Coon Lorimer, Sr. Robert was married to Mary Battrell Lorimer, who survives.

In World War II, Bob was a forward observer radio operator for the field artillery. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service as the first radio operator to cross the Danube River when Patton's Third Army was making its push through Europe. Robert graduated from Central High School in Columbus, earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees from OSU. He retired to McArthur after teaching more than 30 years in the Columbus Public School System, including Crestview Junior High School. For 20 summers Bob worked as a seasonal Ranger Naturalist Supervisor in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by sons John Lorimer of Bremerton, WA and Thomas Lorimer of San Antonio, TX; daughter, Mary Catherine Nick Centrella of Jackson, WY; three grandchildren, Cara Lukhart, Lisa Lorimer and Mary Catherine Centrella; a brother, Paul Dora Lorimer of Orange, TX.

Funeral services will be held 2 P.M., Monday, August 3, 2009 in the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur, with Rev. Kay Puckett officiating. Interment will be in Elk Cemetery, McArthur, with military graveside services being conducted by the McArthur VFW Post #5299. Friends may call Monday, August 3, 2009 at the Garrett-Cardaras Funeral Home, 201 W. High St., McArthur from 12 P.M. to 2 P.M
