William A. Oliver

William A. ""Chuck"" Oliver, 89, of Nelsonville, passed away Thursday, September 3, 2009 at his residence. He was born May 12, 1920, in Chauncey, son of the late William Thomas and Rhoda Canter Oliver. Chuck was the widower of the late Betty Katherine Hardy Oliver, who passed away July 12, 2006.

He was a retired welder from Columbus and Southern Ohio Electric Company, a WWII Veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a member of the Athens Paramuthia Lodge #25. Chuck was a member of the Scottish Rite, Aladdin Temple Shrine, a life member of the Nelsonville Elks Lodge #543 and a life member of the Nelsonville VFW Post #3467.

He is survived by a son, Bill Melody Oliver of Nelsonville; a daughter, Denise Monk of Nelsonville; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Chuck was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Sunday, September 6, 2009 in the Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, 46 Fayette St., Nelsonville. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery New Addition, Nelsonville, with military graveside services being conducted by the Combined Color Guard Unit. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, from 5-8 P.M.
